Jakarta – PT Jaminan Kredit Indonesia (Jamkrindo) has taken proactive steps to involve students in developing a digital ecosystem for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Collaborating with Fordigi, Jamkrindo hosted the Fordigi Goes to Campus event at Airlangga University, East Java, on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.
Abdul Bari, Director of Jamkrindo, emphasized the importance of economic transformation driven by digital capability to help Indonesia escape the middle-income trap before 2045. Citing data from the Indonesia E-Commerce Association (idEA), Bari noted that as of May 2021, 13.7 million MSMEs, or around 21% of the total MSMEs, had joined the digital ecosystem.
“The involvement of MSMEs in the digital ecosystem must continue to grow to bridge the digital divide. The use of digital technology enhances competitiveness, efficiency, and market reach for MSMEs, paving the way for Indonesia to become a high-income nation,” said Bari.
He further highlighted the critical role of MSMEs in Indonesia’s economic structure, as they significantly contribute to the country’s GDP and job creation. He also pointed out the strategic role of universities and students in fostering national progress, particularly in talent development and building a robust digital ecosystem.
Empowering Students to Drive Digitalization
Bari explained that the Fordigi Goes to Campus initiative aims to motivate students to leverage digital tools to bring innovative solutions to their communities. The program also equips students with knowledge of digitalization and business processes that capitalize on the wealth of digital business ecosystems.
“This program, initiated by the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, is vital as human resources and digital talent are the most critical pillars in building a digital ecosystem. Through this initiative, students are encouraged to develop their competencies and skills for a future rooted in digital technologies,” he stated.
Advancing MSME Digitalization
Jamkrindo remains committed to empowering MSMEs through digitalization. This includes optimizing social media use, enhancing branding, expanding marketing via e-commerce, using applications for financial reporting, improving product quality, and other initiatives.
Amid the growth of the digital economy and Industry 4.0 implementation, Jamkrindo has integrated various technological transformations into its operations. These include online collaborations with MSME partners and financial institutions via host-to-host systems, web services, and applications like Jamkrindo Online Suretyship (JOS). Additionally, Jamkrindo developed the UMKMLayak platform (umkmlayak.co.id), which connects MSMEs with financial institutions while providing empowerment programs.
Fordigi, a partner of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, plays a crucial role in developing globally standardized digital ecosystems and talent within Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises. Since its launch on April 14, 2022, Fordigi has conducted various programs to enhance the number and capabilities of digital talents within the sector. The Fordigi Goes to Campus initiative actively engages students to develop them into future digital talents.
