Jakarta– PT Jaminan Kredit Indonesia (Jamkrindo) continues to push for greater financial literacy among micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) in Eastern Indonesia, with one of the initiatives being a workshop held in Parepare City, South Sulawesi. The workshop, titled "Managing Financial Statements for UMKM and Introduction to the UMKM Layak Platform," took place at Barugae Rujab Walikota Parepare on Monday, October 9, 2023.
The event was attended by several notable figures, including Pangerang Rahim, Vice Mayor of Parepare, Erna Rasyid Taufan, Head of Dekranasda Parepare South Sulawesi, Rusdi Saleh, Branch Manager of Jamkrindo Parepare, Roy Baskoro, CEO of Layanan UMKM Naik Kelas (LUNAS), and fashion designer Dimas Mahendra.
Anggit Murdiwibowo, Deputy Head of Institutional Relations Division II at Jamkrindo, explained that the workshop was attended by 60 participants from Parepare City. “This event is part of management consultation and empowerment for UMKM Layak in Eastern Indonesia,” said Anggit.
The workshop’s goal was to help participants understand their financial challenges and explore solutions, as well as to raise awareness of the importance of financial management for their businesses.
Anggit emphasized that understanding financial management is crucial for UMKM owners. He outlined two main areas of focus: distinguishing between income and expenses, and separating needs from wants. “Active income includes wages and business profits, while passive income, such as stocks and bonds, can also be options,” he said.
The workshop also covered the steps to diagnose the financial health of UMKM. The first step is for UMKM owners to check their financial health. Business owners should be able to manage their income well and have more assets than liabilities.
The second step encourages UMKM owners to be wiser with their budgets, prioritizing essential needs over desires. With this knowledge, UMKM owners can be more prudent in using their funds for more productive purposes.
Lastly, the workshop taught UMKM owners to assess their financial health based on three factors:
- Savings should be six times the monthly expenses.
- Monthly debt repayments should not exceed 30% of monthly income.
- Consistent savings habits, setting aside at least 10% of business profits.
If all three factors are met, the financial health of the business is considered strong. If only one factor is met, the financial health of the business may be at risk.
Given the increasingly digital environment, Jamkrindo also encouraged UMKM owners to digitize their financial statements. Digital recording of financial transactions will make it easier for UMKM to manage finances, even without knowledge of basic accounting principles.
Afif, the owner of MOKO Donuts, who attended the workshop from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM WITA, shared that the materials presented were extremely beneficial to UMKM owners in Parepare. "I believe this workshop is very helpful, as it not only covers financial management but also includes Google Maps optimization from Jamkrindo, which will definitely benefit UMKM in Parepare in growing their businesses," he said.
This workshop is part of Management Consultation and UMKM Empowerment under the UMKM Layak program in Eastern Indonesia. Previously, similar events were held in Kupang and Palu, and Jamkrindo will also be hosting workshops in other cities, including Ambon.
