The Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Dahlan Iskan, urged SOEs to enhance competition. "Although it is just a sports event, I want the 2012 SOE Sports and Arts Week to serve as a platform for competition among SOEs. After all, companies are essentially competing. Without competition, SOEs will not progress," he said while officiating the opening of the 2012 SOE Sports and Arts Week at the Soemantri Brojonegoro Sports Hall in Jakarta on Monday night (1/10).
Dahlan stated that the competitive spirit should not only be present during the 2012 SOE Sports and Arts Week, held from October 1–12, 2012, but should also be realized within the SOEs themselves. "I want SOEs not only to excel at the national level but also to make an impact on the international stage," he said.
At the SOE Sports and Arts Week, which took the theme "Healthy Competition Breeds Strong Champions," Dahlan urged SOE boards of directors to pay attention to employees who manage to win. "When I was leading PLN, our choir won and I entered them into a choir contest in Beijing," he said.
The Chairman of the 2012 SOE Sports and Arts Week, Suryanto, stated that the total number of athletes participating in the event is around 4,000 from 92 SOEs, an increase compared to 89 SOEs in the 2011 event.
The sports competitions include eight disciplines: soccer, futsal, badminton, court tennis, table tennis, volleyball, basketball, and bowling. Meanwhile, the arts competitions include group vocal, SOE Karaoke Idol, and SOE Ambassador 2012.
