There are six issues that become challenges for the development of entrepreneurship in Indonesia. “Law enforcement, macroeconomic conditions, infrastructure issues, regulations and rules, financial services, and skilled labor,” said Vice President Boediono while opening Global Entrepreneurship Week in Jakarta on Monday (12/11).
When elaborating on these six challenges, Boediono first mentioned law enforcement, which is a shared issue but still impacts the development of start-ups as well as small and medium enterprises.
"This is a fundamental issue because entrepreneurs cannot possibly develop their business in an area where security is still disturbed," he said.
Second, macroeconomic conditions. Entrepreneurs need economic stability to ensure the smooth operation of their businesses. The government continues to adopt a conservative fiscal stance because it is the best option in uncertain global economic conditions.
"If macroeconomic conditions are like a yoyo or a roller coaster, then only those who are very clever or very speculative can operate a business. Those who are normally productive will retreat."
Third, infrastructure issues, which have a significant impact on entrepreneurs because most economic transactions inevitably include transportation costs.
Fourth, regulations and rules that can either support or, conversely, hinder entrepreneurship.
Fifth, the availability of financial services for both micro and macro businesses, as this will affect the development of a business.
"In this regard, policymakers are trying to further elaborate on the concept of financial inclusion, because from there potential young entrepreneurs can be reached," said the Vice President.
Sixth, the issue of trained and skilled labor. The availability of skilled labor, which is very much needed for industrial development, still needs to be improved.
