Jayapura | The Bank Indonesia (BI) Representative Office for Papua Province continues to strive to optimize the role and capacity of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to drive the regional economy.
Head of the BI Representative Office for Papua, Joko Supratikto, stated that the people of Papua must be supported by financial stability. This is necessary considering that the increasingly complex technological developments in Indonesia require most SMEs in Papua to be able to compete.
"The financial system is a focus of BI in strengthening the role and capacity of SMEs in the economy," explained Joko in Jayapura on Tuesday (29/12/2015).
Joko added that the strategy for developing SMEs in Papua by the BI Representative Office for Papua is implemented through two main approaches: expansion and deepening of financial infrastructure. This is not without basis, as through the expansion of the payment system and rupiah currency management, SME transactions become smoother, safer, and more efficient.
"The rupiah currency management policy is directed at meeting the demand for quality money in an adequate amount and in appropriate denominations in a timely manner throughout the Republic of Indonesia," he stated.
Furthermore, he said that to support these two foundations, BI's strategy in promoting financial inclusion is carried out by increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of government social assistance distribution through non-cash methods.
"The goal is for the community to be independent in money management through a sustainable business model to achieve interoperability. We are synergizing with the financial inclusion initiatives of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to support the acceleration and expansion of financial inclusion," concluded Joko.
