Jakarta | The Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Anak Agung Gede Ngurah Puspayoga, presented a positive report on cooperatives in Indonesia to the Chairman of the National Industrial Economic Committee (KEIN), Soetrisno Bachir.
This report was delivered during a meeting with KEIN to discuss Cooperative and SME Development Policies and Programs in Support of the Industrial and Economic Sectors at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, Jakarta, on Monday (15/2/2016).
According to Puspayoga, cooperatives in Indonesia have successfully entered the list of the top 300 world-class cooperatives. This ranking was created by the international cooperative organization, the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA). The Indonesian cooperative that made it into the top 300 world-class cooperatives is the Telkomsel Cooperative (Kisel) Jakarta, which is the only Indonesian representative on the list.
"One Indonesian cooperative has successfully entered the global cooperative ranking, namely the Telkomsel Cooperative, which ranks 123rd out of 300 world-class cooperatives," he emphasized.
Puspayoga stated that the country with the most representatives on the list is the United States (US), contributing 100 cooperatives to the ICA's list of world-class cooperatives.
However, Puspayoga believes that more Indonesian cooperatives will make it into the ranking in the coming years.
Currently, his ministry is conducting data collection, structuring, and rehabilitation of cooperatives in Indonesia. This is in accordance with the directive from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to ensure that the role of cooperatives is widely felt by society once again.
"There is a directive from the President to rehabilitate existing cooperatives. So far, we have dissolved 62,000 cooperatives that are inactive and not listed in our database. However, 142,000 cooperatives now have identification numbers and have been included in our database," he explained. (source: okezone.com)
