JAKARTA | As a form of concern, Perum Jamkrindo has provided aid for the victims of floods and landslides in Garut and Sumedang Regencies, West Java Province, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday (21/9/2016).

Perum Jamkrindo President Director, Diding S. Anwar, expressed his deepest condolences to the victims of the natural disaster in Garut and Sumedang, West Java. As a demonstration of solidarity and a tangible proof of the BUMN Hadir untuk Negeri initiative in Garut, Perum Jamkrindo felt compelled to provide aid to alleviate the burden of those affected by the disaster.

"We are providing this assistance as a gesture of empathy toward our fellow citizens who have suffered from this disaster. Hopefully, this aid can help ease their burden," said Diding.

This financial aid is part of the Bina Lingkungan Program, a community development initiative managed by each state-owned enterprise (BUMN). The program aims to empower social conditions in communities through the allocation of funds from BUMN profits.

"In accordance with directives from the Ministry of BUMN, the aid distribution is coordinated with Pertamina, Telkom, and BRI. Perum Jamkrindo has coordinated with Telkom, and the aid will be delivered to the BUMN Disaster Response Synergy Post at Telkom Garut's office," Diding stated.

For information, heavy rainfall that began on Tuesday (20/9/2016) at 19:00 WIB caused the water levels of the Cimanuk River and Cikamuri River to rise rapidly. By 20:00 WIB, the floodwaters had reached knee height, and by around 23:00 WIB, they had risen to 1.5–2 meters. As of now, some areas have started to recede. This situation highlights the severe environmental damage and critical condition of the Cimanuk River Basin (DAS Cimanuk).

According to the latest data from the West Java Police, the number of victims from the flash floods in Garut continues to rise. As of Wednesday (21/9/2016) at 20:00 WIB, the death toll had reached 23 people, with 4 severely injured and 27 suffering minor injuries.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the flash floods struck Bayongbong, Tarogong Kidul, Tarogong Kaler, Banyuresmi, and Karangpawitan areas, all within Garut Regency.

Around the same time, a landslide occurred in Cimareme Village, South Sumedang District, Sumedang Regency, West Java Province, on Tuesday (20/9) at 22:00 WIB. The landslide buried two houses under the debris. Two victims were found dead, while two others were presumed buried. The search for victims is still ongoing.
