427,782 BRI KUR debtors shift to commercial loans

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BRI) recorded that 427,782 debtors have successfully transitioned from being People’s Business Credit (KUR) debtors to becoming commercial loan debtors, with an outstanding amount of Rp4.02 trillion as of November 2010.

The large number of customer transitions is attributed to improved economic and trading conditions in various regions of Indonesia.

This was conveyed by BRI President Director Sofyan Basir via a press release on Wednesday (22/12) today. "Many of BRI’s debtors have become eligible for the next type of loan, namely commercial credit," he explained, as reported by MIcom. Sofyan noted that KUR is intended for beginner entrepreneurs who are not yet bankable but run profitable businesses. These loans are provided with government guarantees through PT Asuransi Kredit Indonesia (Askrindo) and Perum Jaminan Kredit Indonesia (Jamkrindo).

"With this model, many entrepreneurs who are not yet commercially viable and are not bankable can obtain business loans—up to Rp20 million for micro KUR and up to Rp500 million for retail KUR," he elaborated.

Looking ahead, BRI is also striving to provide coaching for business operators who are KUR debtors to help their businesses grow.

Meanwhile, BRI Corporate Secretary Muhamad Ali stated that the disbursement of BRI’s KUR loans from January to November 2010 has reached Rp8.286 trillion, which is 96.3% of the target set at Rp8.6 trillion.

According to Ali, this figure represents the largest share of KUR disbursement compared to other banks. BRI’s own target amounts to 54.79% of the national KUR target for this year, which is Rp15.6 trillion. "God willing, we will achieve our target this year and dominate the national market," he expressed.
