State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Promote Tourism in Mandalika

In an effort to accelerate the development of Indonesian tourism, the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) has mobilized 118 BUMN and several of their subsidiaries in Mandalika, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Their presence in Mandalika aims to collaborate and synergize in implementing tourism development programs and the local Special Economic Zone (KEK) through the "BUMN Hadir Untuk Negeri" initiative, a program for accelerating infrastructure development and community service, scheduled from January 26–28, 2017.

Secretary of the Minister of BUMN, Imam Apriyanto Putro, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that Mandalika, Lombok, has been designated as one of the 10 priority destinations and a Special Economic Zone (KEK) by the government through the Ministry of Tourism. This designation aligns with the government's program to increase foreign tourist visits, targeting 20 million visitors by 2019.

"National tourism development and promotion must be carried out actively and sustainably. Through the 'BUMN Hadir Untuk Negeri' program, BUMN are encouraged to collaborate in accelerating the development of tourism destinations in this region, which is known for its world-class marine tourism and halal tourism, as well as being a cruise tourism destination," he said.

The program will take place in four locations—Tanjung Aan, Bukit Meresek, Ende Village, and Sembalun Village in Rinjani—and will include various activities, such as corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in tourism, education, environment, and infrastructure.

"Through this BUMN synergy, we are confident in accelerating the development of Mandalika's special economic tourism zone, and we hope this effort will help the government achieve its target of attracting 20 million tourists by 2019, including to Mandalika," Imam added.

He emphasized that Mandalika's development as a top international destination requires support in attraction, accessibility, and amenities. Through the "BUMN Hadir Untuk Negeri" program, the Ministry of BUMN and all BUMN will contribute CSR assistance totaling Rp9.5 billion to support the development of this area.

"The assistance from BUMN for Mandalika's progress includes CSR contributions in environment, education, and human resource empowerment, social sectors (arts and culture), and infrastructure. We hope this contribution demonstrates how BUMN’s presence benefits the country, fostering Mandalika's growth as one of Indonesia's new main tourist destinations, as initiated by President Jokowi, while also boosting the local economy," Imam stated.

Meanwhile, Head of General Affairs and Public Relations of the Ministry of BUMN, Wahyo Wibowo, mentioned that apart from CSR assistance for Mandalika’s tourism development, the "BUMN Hadir Untuk Negeri" event will also feature the inauguration of the "Kuta Mandalika" signage in Central Lombok Beach by Minister of BUMN Rini M. Soemarno. "This signage is expected to attract more tourists while serving as a new icon for the Mandalika tourism area. The selection of Mandalika reflects BUMN’s support for the government's initiative to accelerate its development into the world's top halal tourism destination and a cruise tourism hub," he explained.

The Ministry of BUMN has also appointed the national airline, Garuda Indonesia, as the coordinator for the series of BUMN synergy activities in Mandalika. This aligns with Garuda Indonesia’s vision to continuously strengthen inter-island and inter-city connectivity across various Indonesian destinations, supporting the government's efforts to drive economic growth in different regions.

BUMN continue to grow and contribute to the national economy, primarily through the provision of high-quality goods and services that meet public needs. BUMN also pioneer business ventures not yet explored by the private sector and actively provide guidance and support to small business owners, cooperatives, and local communities.

To adapt to the changing times, the Ministry of BUMN and state-owned enterprises remain committed to being present in the public sphere. One of the key initiatives to achieve this is the "BUMN Hadir Untuk Negeri" program. Over the past two years, the Ministry of BUMN has initiated this program with facilitation from BUMN operating across Indonesia.

Throughout 2016, the "BUMN Hadir Untuk Negeri" program has been implemented in various regions, including Parapat (North Sumatra), Garut (West Java), Wonosobo (Central Java), Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara), and Cilacap (Central Java). BUMN have demonstrated their commitment to local communities through the Partnership and Community Development Program (PKBL), offering support in tourism, education, infrastructure, and other areas to boost the local economy.
