REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA – Development in Papua Faces Unique Challenges
Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XI, Indah Kurnia, stated that human resources in Papua must be extraordinary. According to her, the best people are needed to develop Papua.
Indah expressed this during a meeting led by the Deputy Chair of Commission XI, M. Prakosa, with financial service industry stakeholders in Papua on Monday (27/2). "The various challenges in Papua, which is very beautiful, spectacular, and ordinary, will be a challenge for all of us, especially for the financial services sector. Therefore, the selection of human resources must prioritize truly extraordinary individuals," she said.
Indonesia's Development Moving Eastward
She hopes that the human resources assigned to Papua can transfer knowledge and contribute to a more prosperous Papua. During the same occasion, financial sector stakeholders in Papua outlined various challenges and obstacles, including: Geographical and connectivity factors – Papua's characteristics include many remote areas with limited and expensive transportation networks, Infrastructure and human resource factors – Internet, communication, and electricity networks are often disrupted. Additionally, human resource factors such as commitment, competence, and budget compliance remain issues.
On this occasion, she also expressed appreciation for Jamkrindo, BPD Papua, and other state-owned banks that have provided CSR programs for local youth.
"I appreciate Jamkrindo and BPD Papua in particular. Hopefully, their efforts will be carried out consistently and sustainably, providing local youth with financial literacy opportunities aimed at boosting economic growth," she said.
