Bangka Belitung & West Java Province
BANDUNG – Perum Jamkrindo, together with several other state-owned enterprises (BUMNs), facilitated the exchange of Siswa Mengenal Nusantara (SMN) participants from the Bangka Belitung Islands Province and West Java. The SMN participants from Bangka Belitung will stay in Bandung for the next week to learn about and experience the culture and people of West Java. Similarly, SMN participants from West Java will stay in Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung for a week to study and explore the region.
The ceremonial exchange of SMN participants was held at Gedung Sate, Bandung, West Java, on Monday, July 17, 2017. The event was attended by the Director of Finance, Investment, and Risk Management of Perum Jamkrindo, I. Rusdonobanu, as well as the Director of Finance and Strategic Planning of PT. Sucofindo (Persero), Beni Agus Permana.
Perum Jamkrindo and PT. Sucofindo are two BUMNs responsible for managing the SMN program since the selection stage in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province. Also present at the event were leaders from four BUMNs managing the SMN program in West Java, including Bank Mandiri, Bio Farma, PTPN VIII, and Perum Jasa Tirta 2.
The Siswa Mengenal Nusantara (SMN) program is a student exchange initiative initiated by the Ministry of BUMN as an annual routine activity carried out by BUMNs. The program aims to contribute to National Capacity Building through the younger generation who are the future leaders of the nation.
I. Rusdonobanu, Director of Finance, Investment, and Risk Management at Perum Jamkrindo, explained that after this exchange process, the responsibility would shift. Perum Jamkrindo and Sucofindo received 27 students from West Java to carry out the SMN program activities in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province in Pangkalpinang.
On the other hand, the BUMNs managing the SMN program in West Java received 20 students from Bangka Belitung, representing seven districts and cities from the province, to conduct SMN activities in West Java. “We entrust our students from Bangka Belitung to learn about West Java. We hope this will be an inspiring experience for them,” said Rusdonobanu.
The student exchange program involved high-achieving students from senior high schools (SMU/SMK) and special education schools (SLB). They underwent a selection process in their respective regions to participate in the SMN program for seven days.
The SMN program includes various activities such as understanding different cultures, appreciating the natural beauty, reflecting on and learning from the nation's natural resources and ancestral heritage. It is hoped that the SMN participants will gain positive experiences that will influence their lives and future.
According to Rusdono, this activity, as part of the BUMN Hadir untuk Negeri (BUMN for the Nation) program, has always been enthusiastically welcomed by students across Indonesia. “With this program, students can gain a deeper understanding of the diversity of cultures in the archipelago, as there are regional differences that make each area unique. This will broaden their perspective on the diversity of Indonesia,” he stated.
Riyadi, the Head of the General Bureau of the West Java Provincial Government, mentioned that the SMN program is very beneficial because it provides high school students and their peers with the opportunity to truly experience the archipelago. “They not only learn from books but also travel to distant regions. They can interact directly with people from different cultures. The students will realize that differences exist, and it’s a blessing from God. It’s this diversity and mutual understanding that make Indonesia strong,” he said.
“I used to have to save money to travel to other regions. Now, these younger students are being facilitated by BUMN. This is excellent, and they should make the most of it to gain experiences and knowledge from other regions in our vast archipelago,” he concluded.
