In celebration of its 48th anniversary on July 1, 2018, Perum Jamkrindo held a series of social activities, including a free cataract surgery program. This initiative was in collaboration with the Sumedang District Health Office, the Cicendo National Eye Center Hospital, and the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association of West Java. The free cataract surgeries were conducted at the DTP Kotakaler Health Center and the Cataract Centre in Sumedang on Friday, May 11, 2018.
The event was attended by Abdul Bari, Corporate Secretary of Perum Jamkrindo; M. Solihin, Chair of the 48th Anniversary Committee of Perum Jamkrindo; and M. Rinanto Deddy, Head of Perum Jamkrindo’s Bandung Branch Office.
In his speech, Abdul Bari mentioned that the social action was part of the activities organized to celebrate Perum Jamkrindo’s 48th anniversary. He highlighted that the program is also part of the company's Partnership and Community Development Program (PKBL) and embodies the spirit of "BUMN Hadir Untuk Negeri" (SOEs Present for the Nation), an initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of BUMN, which ensures that the benefits of state-owned enterprises reach the community.
“As of the first quarter of 2018, Perum Jamkrindo has disbursed approximately IDR 1.77 billion in PKBL funds, consisting of IDR 920 million for the Partnership Program and IDR 849 million for the Community Development Program. Last year, Jamkrindo distributed around IDR 16.79 billion in PKBL funds,” Abdul Bari added.
Randi Anto, President Director of Perum Jamkrindo, stated that since its establishment in 1970, Perum Jamkrindo has contributed significantly to the development of MSMEs in Indonesia. “In our 48 years, Perum Jamkrindo continues to contribute to the nation, including through social activities like this free cataract surgery program,” he said.
According to data from the Ministry of Health, approximately 250,000 new cases of cataract blindness are reported annually in Indonesia, which accounts for 0.1% of the population. However, the number of cataract surgeries performed each year is estimated to be only 180,000, leaving a backlog of around 70,000 cases. Given this situation, Perum Jamkrindo aims to help reduce this backlog. “Today, we are providing free cataract surgeries for 75 individuals, so that people can truly feel the presence of BUMN for the Nation,” Randi Anto added.
M. Solihin, Chair of the 48th Anniversary Committee, mentioned that the anniversary celebrations also featured a variety of other activities, including the Jamkrindo Startup Challenge (JSC), BUMDes (Village-Owned Enterprises), futsal matches with partners, a MURI Record-breaking attempt, sports competitions across all Perum Jamkrindo offices in Indonesia, Jamkrindo’s educational outreach programs, blood donation events, photojournalism competitions, and thematic photo and video contests among work units. The celebrations culminated in the "Pesta UMKM Perum Jamkrindo" event, which also involved employees’ families.
