JAKARTA – Perum Jamkrindo held an earthquake simulation at the company's headquarters in Jakarta on Monday, June 17, 2019. Through this simulation, all employees of Perum Jamkrindo are expected to become more aware of the potential and dangers of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, so that when needed, they will have enough knowledge to take action.
Sulis Usdoko, Director of Human Resources, General Affairs, and Compliance at Perum Jamkrindo, explained that disaster earthquake simulations and evacuations are crucial for building occupants. “Indonesia is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, where the potential for earthquakes is quite high. The simulation of earthquake events and evacuations is very important. Knowledge of the details is essential for every employee,” said Sulis during the earthquake simulation.
According to Sulis, employees or human resources (HR) are an important asset for the company (human capital), so every company is obliged to make optimal efforts to protect employees from any disaster events. “The industrial revolution 4.0 will indeed encourage the more widespread use of technology. However, the role of employees will remain essential in driving the industry,” said Sulis.
The earthquake simulation is one of Perum Jamkrindo’s initiatives to increase employees' knowledge about disasters. Increasing employees’ awareness and understanding of disasters, including earthquakes, is very important. Only through proper input of knowledge and awareness can employees take appropriate rescue actions during a disaster. In addition, employees are expected to follow the established procedures and adhere to every instruction.
Preparation for the earthquake simulation began in March 2019 with a series of meetings and procedural preparations. On the day of the simulation, preparations had been underway since the morning. The simulation began around 9:00 AM, followed by evacuation announcements, and employees were directed to the assembly point, which was located at Silangit Park, in front of Perum Jamkrindo's headquarters.
After all employees gathered, personnel from each floor took attendance to ensure that all employees had assembled. While waiting for the attendance process, the building safety team, the Jamkrindo Building management, conducted security checks on the building, including structural integrity, elevator conditions, and electricity.
While waiting for the building inspection results, the team also gathered information from the government and relevant parties. Once everything was declared safe, employees returned to the building to resume regular activities.
“Every detail of the entire simulation process is crucial, and all employees must understand every detail to ensure their safety. Disaster simulations will be conducted regularly, and it is hoped that each simulation will have evaluations for learning, both for the corporation and the employees,” said Sulis. (Public Relations)
