PT Jamkrindo has provided a mango processing machine to UKM Saluyu and hydroponic farming facilities to the Ciletuh Homestay Association. This initiative is a continuation of Jamkrindo’s empowerment program in Ciletuh Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark, aimed at strengthening local economic resilience and sustainability.
The symbolic handover took place in Ciemas District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, where representatives of UKM Saluyu and the Ciletuh Homestay Association received the assistance. Jamkrindo’s President Director, Randi Anto, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the company's long-term commitment to community empowerment, which began in 2019 and is planned to continue until 2022, as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Sukabumi Regent, Marwan Hamami.
"Community empowerment is part of our contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a credit guarantee company, we are deeply connected to society and strive to make a direct impact," said Randi Anto in a press release on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.
The mango processing machine was handed over to UKM Saluyu, whose members include former Indonesian migrant workers (TKI) who returned home to start businesses amid Geopark Ciletuh’s growing tourism appeal.
Since early 2020, Jamkrindo and UKM Saluyu have engaged in intensive discussions to develop business opportunities based on local raw materials. Mangoes, a key local commodity, were chosen for value-added processing into mango crisps, ensuring better price stability for farmers.
Data from Ciemas District indicates that local mango orchards cover approximately 200 hectares, producing hundreds of tons of mangoes during peak harvest season. However, market oversupply often leads to price drops, leaving farmers vulnerable. To address this issue, UKM Saluyu aims to stabilize farm-gate prices by transforming mangoes into processed products with longer shelf life.
Meanwhile, hydroponic farming facilities were provided to the Ciletuh Homestay Association to offer added value to eco-tourism accommodations. These hydroponic farms serve two primary purposes: Providing fresh vegetables for tourists staying in local homestays, Offering an educational experience for visitors interested in sustainable farming
In addition to Community Development initiatives, PT Jamkrindo has also begun disbursing funds under its Partnership Program (Program Kemitraan/PK) to support members of the Ciletuh Homestay Association (IHC). Many homestay operators require additional capital to expand their businesses as tourism in Geopark Ciletuh grows, particularly on weekends and holidays.
